GO SNAPS TIU’S TITLE STREAK IN MAGNOLIA PUREWATER DRAG RACING
Anthony Go of JCT-Blanche Racing hacked out the crucial triumph that captured the overall Pro Class crown of the 2010 Magnolia Purewater National Drag Racing Championship Series that culminated recently at the Clark International Speedway .
Go literally got all the luck as he wrapped up his campaign with 75 points in this series sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and supported by Yokohama Tires, San Miguel Corporation, PAGCOR Sports, Aeromed, Chequered Flag and Stoplight TV.
He was actually an underdog in the final showdown against Edwin Cayco of H3 Autoworks in this race that also served as the opening round of the 2010 Northern Series Philippine Drag Racing Championships
Cayco was the day’s fastest car as he ousted Ian Borromeo on his first run clocking 9.940 seconds and got into the finals turning back Norman dela Pena with a time of 10.319 seconds.
Go, on the other hand, having fuel injection problems prior to the race proper and barely escaped with a time of 11.477 against the American muscle car of John Ryzia who clocked 11.745 to claim the other finals slot.
However, Cayco succumbed to a red light violation in their title duel as Go romped to victory with a time of 11.560 to emerge the first drag racer to win the crown outside of the deposed six-time champion Jonathan Tiu who was still recuperating from a previous accident.
“I’m very happy indeed. This is a big blessing as things came to my favor and I share this honor with Jonathan (Tiu), my JCT-Blanche Racing teammates and the rest of the crew,” said Go.
Despite his no-show, Tiu still clinched the overall Quick 8 crown with a total of 55 points. And with his runner-up finish in the Pro Class, he assured himself of the Golden Wheel Drag Racing Driver of the Year award.
The day belonged to Pepi Santos of H3 Autoworks who staged a successful comeback winning the Quick 8 class. He clocked a fast time of 10.231 seconds to prevail over Norman de la Pena of QSP-My Mitsu who posted 11.196 seconds in their final showdown.
Expat William Hand took third place with 11.319 seconds

CLARK – Multi-titled car racing champ Mike Tuason of TRS-Castrol pulled off a heart-stopping victory that claimed solo leadership recently in the second leg of the 2010 YOKOHAMA Philippine Grand Touring (GT) Championships at the Clark International Speedway here.
All it took was a decisive maneuver in the final lap for the big escape that completed Tuason’s sweep of both races in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Yokohama Tires, PAGCOR Sports, Aeromed, Chequered Flag, and Stoplight TV.
The afternoon rainshower nearly changed the scenario as Dennis Uy of SEAOIL-Velocity Motors grabbed the lead at the start but Tuason quickly wrested the lead on the next lap and pulled away from the pack.
However, Tuason’s imminent victory almost got spoiled when backmarkers Marcus Wong, Stuart MacDonald, Bobby Noriega and Bjorn Ongtiabok, who are all TRS-Castrol teammates, blocked his path and slowed him down.
The situation gave second-running William Tan the chance to close in on Tuason and later diced for the lead thrice and even gained distance on the penultimate lap.
Tuason stepped on the gas and came side by side with Tan on the final lap until he squeezed through the narrow third turn to regain the front seat and control the momentum to the finish line.
He wrapped up the grueling 30-lap race in 38 minutes and 56.730 seconds or just 0.694 of a second ahead of Tan. The feat gave Tuason the overall win and the GT300 title over Leo San Juan .
Tan eventually bagged the GT 200 crown over Uy who finished third overall on his Clark debut, with Ongtiabok and Joey Pery settling for third and fourth places respectively.
Wong, who checked in fourth overall, clinched the GT125 plum over teammates MacDonald and Noriega.
Earlier, Tuason dominated the 20-lap Sprint race clocking 23 minutes and 46.398 seconds or a far 43.587 seconds ahead of Tan to also claim the GT300 crown over San Juan .
Tan won the GT200 title over Ongtiabok and Pery while MacDonald, who came in third overall, copped the GT125 plum over Wong, Sean Redback and Dennis Uy./ (B Castro)

SUPERBIKES
CLARK – Even as the competition has gone tougher, defending champion Maico Buncio of YRS-Elf Moto Oil-Yamaha Racing cruised to another smooth victory recently in the second leg of the 2010 Enersel Forte Philippine Superbikes Championship Series at the Clark International Speedway here.
With his back-to-back win, Buncio not only firmed up his grip of solo leadership but also fortified his chances for a four-peat crown in this event sponsored by Enersel Forte, PAGCOR Sports, MTRT, Aeromed, Chequered Flag, and Stoplight TV.
Posting the day’s fastest laptime of 1:03.186, he quickly pulled away from the start, gaining distance in each lap to sweep both the Pre-Final and Final races of the premiere Enercel Forte Superbikes Open class.
Unlike the kickoff leg where he prevailed 12 seconds ahead, Buncio took the checkered flag with just a 3.151 seconds lead over closest rival Glenn Aguilar of Enersel Forte-Ducati Racing as he wrapped up the 8-lap race in eight minutes and 25.561 seconds.
Young gun Dashi Watanabe bagged third place while former 10-time Superbikes champ Jolet Jao ended fourth.
“I’m happy how things still went in our favor. The track was a fast one and I knew they’ll try to bounce back in this race. But with the racing excellence of our machine, we pulled through smoothly and trouble-free,” said Buncio.
Aguilar vented his ire in the Motard class where he ruled the Expert division with a time of six minutes and 45.220 seconds or 3.205 seconds ahead of Enersel Forte-Ducati Racing teammate Toti Alberto.
Another veteran Benjo Mendoza took third place just 0.680 of a second behind Alberto while Allan Suansing and Edwin Buenaventura ended fourth and fifth respectively.
Don Don Yuson topped the Motard Novice class, winning over Inigo Bilbao, Jhun Lacson, Luiz Lim and Christer Paul Barcelona .
Watanabe went on to rule the Superbike Intermediate class, clocking 8:38.697 to turn back Raniel Resuello and third placer John Defensor while Dennis Fajardo also copped his second straight triumph in the Superbike Novice class over runner-up Danes Sarmiento and Marlon Bagtang.
Joining the winners circle were Aries Padiernos, Lucious Francis Natividad and Monty Mortimar.
Padiernos banked on experience to capture his back-to-back victory in the 400cc Unlimited division over Ernanie Alcantara.
Natividad showed his stuff winning the 400cc Novice title up against runner-up Nikki Roman, third placer Korean National Hochul Peter Kim and Marlone Teng.
>br>
Mortimar showed great promise as a newcomer as he turned back veteran Inigo Bilbao and Carmini Jezreel Fajardo for the Superbikes Beginners crown.
Carlos Joaquin Loinaz checked in fourth while Marlon Bagtang and Richard Soriano finished fifth and sixth respectively
The next leg is set June 19-20 at the Batangas Racing Circuit. (Bong Castro)

TIU MAKES COMEBACK IN CLARK SPEEDWAY DRAG RACE
CLARK, PAMPANGA – Defending champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing got back into the limelight following his big triumph that resuscitated his hopes for an unprecedented seventh straight crown in the combined 2010 National Drag Racing Championship and 2010 Philippine Drag Racing Championship-Northern Series recently at the Clark International Speedway here.
Tiu spoiled the bid of teammate Anthony Go for solo leadership when he nailed the win in the premiere Pro class of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and supported by San Miguel Corporation, Pilipinas Shell, Yokohama, PAGCOR, Aeromed, Hastings Motor Corporation, Sel J Pharma-Therasil Lozenges, Inside Racing and Stoplight TV.
It was one tough battle for Tiu who had to survive the ordeal against Ed Christian Go and Mato Tan of W. Autosports-Matonetics on his way to the final showdown where he clocked a fast 9.588 seconds to prevail over Anthony Go who ended with a red light violation.
Go took the runner-up honors while the fastest lady driver When When Dagondon rose up from the loser’s bracket to claim third place.
Dagondon turned back Ed Christopher Go in the loser’s bracket to earn the wild card pass and ruled over CJ Lopez in the quarterfinals before succumbing to Anthony Go in the semis.
“It was a close fight, had he not ended in a red light violation. It feels good to be back on track,” said Tiu.
Tiu almost ended in a double title but fell a little short against Mato Tan who captured the Quick 8 crown.
Tan and Tiu were almost even nearing the halfway mark but the former got the edge in the ensuing play to claim victory with a time of 9.404 seconds or 0.183 of a second ahead of Tiu’s 9.587 seconds.
Ed Christian Go registered 10.544 seconds to clinch third place in the battle against Elson Jose Dagondon. The next round is set March 13 at the Batangas Racing Circuit.

ANTHONY GO GRABS DRAG RACE SPOTLIGHT AT CLARK SPEEDWAY; DAGONDON FASTEST LADY DRIVER IN RP
CLARK -- Anthony Go of JCT-Blanche Racing staged an impressive comeback to claim the spotlight recently in the combined 2010 National Drag Racing Championship kickoff and the second leg of the 2010 Philippine Drag Racing Championship-Northern Series at the Clark International Speedway here.
It was the first major win for Go who turned back teammate Ed Christopher Go for the Pro class title of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and supported by San Miguel Corporation, Pilipinas Shell, Yokohama, PAGCOR, Aeromed, Hastings Motor Corporation, Inside Racing and Stoplight TV.
Losing against Vannitec’s Mark Molina in the first round, Anthony actually came back from the loser’s bracket where he turned back retired serviceman Steve Caldwell of Ahra Garage Power and his crowd favorite Chevy to gain the slot as a wild card entry.
Then he advanced to the semifinals clocking 11.736 seconds up against lady driver When When Dagondon of Vannitec to forge a final showdown against Ed Christopher Go who, in turn, beat Molina with a time of 11.741 seconds.
Posting nearly similar clockings, the crowd geared up for a very close fight for the crown. However, Ed Christopher lapsed into a breakout as Anthony Go completed his comeback trail with a time of 11.652 seconds for the big win.
Ed Christian Go, the defending Pro class champ, wound up third.
“That was probably the hardest thing I’ve ever done in racing. After losing the first round, I’ve almost given up hope. But making it as a wild card entry rekindled that fighting spirit so I gave it my best to reach the finals and win the race,” said Anthony Go.
Despite her loss, Dagondon earned the distinction as the “RP’s Fastest Lady Driver” when she registered a new fastest all-motor Honda single cam record of 12.065 seconds.
Ed Christian Go, on the other hand, vented his ire in the Quick 8 division where he went blazing with a fast time of 10.325 seconds to prevail over Mark Molina who chipped in 11.859 seconds in their final encounter.
Mato Tan of Vannitec took third place.
Ed Christian Go’s exciting triumph over Molina more than made up for the early departure of defending champion Jonathan Tiu and first leg Pro class winner John Ryzia of Ahra Garage Power who were tagged as the top favorites but unfortunately suffered engine problems.
Even Drag Racing director Fil Gulfin got good responses over the new rule which was intended to balance the percentage of the driver’s skills and the power of the car.
“Aside from giving more drivers equal chances for the crown, this is the first time that tha drivers’ skill was given equal importance with the preparation of the car,” Gulfin explained.

TIU SETS NEW RECORD IN RP DRAG RACING-NORTHERN SERIES KICKOFF
CLARK, PAMPANGA – Defending champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing added another feather to his cap following another impressive win recently in the kickoff of the 2010 Philippine Drag Racing Championship-Northern Series at the Clark International Speedway here.
Tiu not only steered his new Mitsubishi Evo 5 to another remarkable triumph in the Quick 8 division but also stamped a new record run in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and supported by San Miguel Corporation, Pilipinas Shell, Yokohama Tires, PAGCOR, Aeromed, Hastings Motor Corporation and Stoplight TV.
Running unopposed in the final showdown, Tiu took the opportunity to test the limit of his car and set a new all-time fastest quarter-mile record of 9.054 seconds that shattered his previous fastest time of 9.223 seconds. And experts say it will take a long time for any driver, not even Tiu, to surpass that fastest time.
As Tiu reigned supreme in the Quick 8, the American V8 muscle cars dominated the Pro Class with Angeles City-based former US serviceman John Ryzia leading the 1-2-3 finish.
Ryzia, aboard his crowd-favorite 1968 Chevy, ruled the Pro class clocking 11.428 seconds in his final showdown with fellow expat William Hand who came close behind with 11.814 seconds.
Another former US serviceman Steve Caldwell checked in third with a time of 12.135 seconds with his Camaro.
<
Comebacking driver Morris Miranda also got his share of the limelight with his big win in the Expert class. He posted 12.932 seconds in his final encounter against newcomer Gary Dumbrique who lost via a breakout with 13.311 seconds.
Bong Hilario took third place with 12.598 seconds.
Topping the other classes where Vicente Moya and Michael Tio.
Moya grabbed the honors in the Sportsman class via a double-breakout triumph over TJ Pangilinan with Russel Abobo claiming third place.
Tio, on the other hand, won the Hot Street division following his time of 16.097 seconds against Reumar Mariano who posted 16.693 seconds. Jhume Nuqui copped third place with 16.640 seconds. (/Bong Castro)

RP DRAG RACING-NORTHERN SERIES KICKS OFF SATURDAY
The showdown of cars and speed returns as the 2010 Philippine Drag Racing Championship-Northern Series kicks off on Saturday, December 12, at the Clark International Speedway .
The American V8 muscle cars make their comeback with high hopes of beating the modern four-cyclinder vehicles in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Pilipinas Shell, San Mig Coffee, Yokohama, PagCor, Aeromed, Hastings Motor Corporation and Stoplight TV.
Out to lure the crowd’s fancy anew are Ken Kepner’s Camaro and John Ryzia’s 1968 Chevy that proved to be forces to deal with winding up among the top contenders in last year’s title quest.
“These American muscle cars are consistent showstoppers. Only a few of these vintage cars are left here in the Philippines and it’s a rare experience seeing them competitively racing on a fast race track,” said BRC Drag Racing Director Fil Gulfin who urges all participants to come early for the registration and the qualifying runs starting at 9 a.m.
Gulfin also expressed his gratitude to the support and participation of the drivers and their respective teams as he expects another record field joining this season.
Also raring to prove his supremacy is defending champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing who will be gunning for an unprecedented seventh straight crown.
Fans and spectators are eager to see Tiu shatter his very own existing Clark International Speedway all-time fastest quarter-mile record of 9.223 seconds.
But to choose between winning and breaking the record would be a tough decision considering that the competition has gone stronger. Among those eyeing to stop Tiu in the Quick 8 class are Vanni Garcia of W. Autosports-Vannitec, H3 Motorsports top gun Pepi Santos, and Blanche Racing’s Ed Christian Go.
Among those who also confirmed their participation are first female Drag Racing champ Jeannette Go, Jonathan Young and Jon Sarmiento, H3 Motorsports driver John Kalaw and Team Ready’s Vic Mallare.
Go will be gunning for her second career title as she tries to turn back her equally tough male rivals in the Hotstreet division while Young hopes to reassert his supremacy in the Expert class.
Sarmiento seeks another title clinching feat as he faces Mallare in the Sportsman class while Kalaw aims for a better finish after winding up third place in both the Quick 8 and Pro classes in the San Mig Coffee National Trophy Series.bong castro

PEREZ IS 2009 YOKOHAMA GT SERIES DRIVER OF THE YEAR
CLARK. PAMPANGA -- Paul Henderson Perez took over the reign of his father Felix when he emerged the Driver of the Year in the recently concluded 2009 Yokohama Philippine Grand Touring (GT) Championships at the Clark International Speedway here.
The younger Perez bucked the heavy rain and the stiff challenge of William Tan in the 20-lap Main Race to capture the overall plum of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by Yokohama, PAGCOR, San Miguel Corporation, San Mig Coffee and Aeromed.
He wrapped up his campaign with a total of 184 points or 50 points ahead of overall runner-up John Asuncion who tallied 144 points. He also bagged the overall GT 125 title up against Nicolo Fernandez who wound up overall third place with 140 points.
Asuncion, for his part, went home with the GT 200 crown by just 10 points against Tan who ended with a total of 134 points.
“My dad won the crown last year and I’m very happy to have followed his footsteps by winning the Driver of the Year this season with his all-out support and guidance,” said Paul Perez.
It was one unpredictable finale as Perez found himself struggling up against Tan who ruled the 15-lap morning Sprint Race in 17 minutes and 0.313 seconds or a far 16.260 seconds ahead of Perez who checked in second.
Fernandez checked in third while Asuncion and new entry Richard Bodestyne finished fourth and fifth.
But the determined Perez pulled one quick dive on Tan in the afternoon Main Race to wrest the lead for good and seal his title-clinching feat.
He clocked 25 minutes and 41.723 second in the 20-lap final race or 8.987 seconds of Tan. Asuncion checked in third while Fernandez and Bodestyne ended fourth and fifth.
Emayrson Manaog pulled a sweep of both the Sprint and Main Races to capture the overall crown in the GT300 division.

FERNANDO IS NEW UNDERBONE KING; BUNCIO CLAIMS 2ND SUPERBIKES PLUM
CLARK – Fil-Japanese Masato Fernando rose from being an underdog at the start into the new Underbone King after bagging the overall crown of the 2009 Magnolia Health Tea Philippine Underbone King Championships recently at the Clark International Speedway here.
All it took was a consistent third place finish in both the Pre-Final and Final race despite the slippery wet track to capture the premiere 150cc Open title in this event sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Magnolia Health Tea, Aeromed, Inside Racing and PAGCOR.
He wrapped up the plum with a total of 261 points as he turned back close rivals Maico Buncio of Elf Moto Oil-YRS Racing and Johnlery Enriquez of Suzuki who shared overall second place with 248 points.
Buncio, who was then just five points behind Fernando, saw his dreams shatter under heavy rain as he spun out midway the Pre-Final race.
But when the clouds cleared later in the afternoon, Buncio went on to capture both the 130cc Open crown and his back-to-back Superbikes diadem in the 2009 BRC Superbikes Series.
He went unopposed in the final run of the Superbikes series as he completed the six-lap race in six minutes and 9.465 seconds to wrap up his campaign with a total of 172 points.
The day actually belonged to Enriquez who pulled a 1-2 sweep in both the Pre-Final and Final Race together with teammate Paul Mark Doblada.
He also bagged the overall crown in the 115cc Open class tallying a total of 253 points or just two points ahead of Doblada.
However, it was Doblada who claimed the 115cc Sports Production title as he wound up the series with a total of 257 points or 22 points ahead of Enriquez.
KC Ng likewise pulled a sweep to emerge the pioneer champion of the 180cc Automatic Scooter class while Paolo Labador emerged the overall champion in the 115cc Super Stock class.
Another Fil-Japanese Dashi Watanabe also hugged the limelight when he emerged the Novice Rider of the Year in the 2009 BRC Superbikes Series.
The 15-year-old Watanabe came as Buncio’s closest rival in the combined race as he clocked seven minutes and 21.801 seconds to seal his victory over newcomer Rommel Florante, Charles Nolasco and Miles Dungo.
Aries Padiernos also pulled a sweep over Resty Lucas and Dave de Leon to claim the 400cc Expert crown while Victor Laude also completed a title-clinching feat with his own sweep in the 400cc Novice division over Ernanie Alcantara and Jesse James Dayag.
Toti Alberto of YellowCab-Ducati Access Plus also took the Masters crown over George Gerard.

ENRIQUEZ OUTWITS FAVES TO RULE MAGNOLIA UNDERBONE
CARMONA – Former Underbone King Johnlery Enriquez grabbed the limelight following his sweep in the premiere 150cc Open class recently to improve his chances for the crown recently fifth and penultimate leg of the 2009 Magnolia Health Tea Philippine Underbone King Championships at the Carmona Circuit Philippines here.
Enriquez, who bagged his first career title two years back, controlled the tempo throughout to turn back top favorites Maico Buncio of YRS-Elf Moto Oil and Masato Fernando in this event sanctioned by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA) and sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Magnolia Health Tea, Aeromed, Inside Racing and PAGCOR.
He Enriquez wrapped up the 12-lap race in nine minutes and 45.657 seconds or a far 4.380 seconds ahead of runner-up Fernando. Buncio checked in third 14.786 seconds behind.
With the win, he moved up third overall with 198 points as Fernando now wrested the overall lead with 221 points.
It was quite disappointing for Buncio who slipped to second place with 216 points or five-point behind Fernando. But he romped away with three titles in the 130cc Open, 115cc. Open and the 115cc. Sports Production.
He barely escaped by just 0.822 of a second against Anthony Roman to complete a sweep in the 130cc. Open with a time of 10 minutes and 22.344 seconds.
It was a big risk for Buncio who was forced to race with a 115cc engine when his 130cc. modified bike got busted in the Pre-Final.
But the risk paid off. Starting from the tailend, he passed one rider after another for the big win that fortified his solo leadership with a total of 175 points against Roman who tallies 151.
Buncio likewise upstaged the frontrunning Enriquez in both the 115cc. Open and the 115cc. Sports Production classes.
Clinching the other titles were Ivan Santiago and Paolo Labador.
Santiago swept both the Pre-Final and Final races to claim victory in the 180cc Automatic Scooter 4-Stroke class over KC Ng and former jetski champ Carlo Baltao.
Labador escaped by just 0.827 of a second to capture the 115cc. Super Stock crown over runner-up Marvin Mangulabnan and third placer Nicolo Ramos./Bong Castro

TIU COMPLETES CAREER MILESTONE IN SAN MIG COFFEE DRAG RACING
CLARK, Pampanga. Jonathan Tiu completed another career milestone as he formally bagged an unprecedented sixth consecutive overall plum recently in the culmination of the 2009 San Mig Coffee National Drag Racing Championship-National Trophy Series at the Clark International Speedway here.
Tiu wrapped up his campaign with 60 points behind four big wins that also captured the overall Quick 8 crown of this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Pilipinas Shell, San Mig Coffee, Yokohama, PagCor and Aeromed.
Too bad, rainshowers denied him the chance to shatter his very own exisiting Clark International Speedway all-time fastest quarter-mile record of 9.223 seconds as the slippery track forced organizers to postpone the high-speed action in the Quick 8 and Pro class divisions.
Nevertheless, he was very happy with the feat.
“I share this title with my fellow drivers and the hardworking crew of our JCT-Blanche Racing team as we try to further work on achieving sports excellence in the field of drag racing,” said Tiu.
Actually, JCT-Blanche Racing swept all the titles behind Ed Christian Go in the Pro class, Jonathan Young in the Expert division, Jon Sarmineto in the Sportsman Class and first female Drag Racing champ Jeannette Go in the Hotstreet division.
The team also bagged two runners-up behind Ed Christian Go in the Quick 8 and Mayor Edgar Go in the Pro class, and a third place honor behind Anthony Go in the Quick 8.
H3 Motorsports emerged the second winningest team with four trophies behind John Kalaw and stalwart Pepi Santos who shared third place finishes in both the Quick 8 and Pro classes.
Team Ready had two behind the third place feats of Vic Mallare in the Sportsman class and Boy Francisco in the Hotstreet division.
Kool Plus got a runner-up finish behind newcomer Junmar Tabalino in the Expert class and so with Alps Racing behind Akim Cleofe in the Sportsman and Forced Speed behind Cholo Dayrit in the Hotstreet division.
W. Autosport and Kanzai had one third place each behind Vanni Garcia and Chester Ngo respectively in the Expert class.
“It was another successful season and we’re deeply thankful to all the teams and drivers for their continuous participation and support to Philippine Drag Racing,” said BRC Drag Racing Director Fil Gulfin.
These drag racers will embark on another challenge as the 2009 Northern Series kicks off September 26 also at the Clark International Speedway .

ENRIQUEZ EMERGES WITH THREE TITLES IN MAGNOLIA UNDERBONE
STA. ROSA, LAGUNA – An indefatigable Johnlery Enriquez bagged three titles to fortify his chances for the overall crown of the 2009 Magnolia Health Tea Philippine Underbone King Championships recently at the Kart Trak of the Enchanted Kingdom in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
Enriquez not only steered his Suzuki to a dominating sweep in the premiere 150cc Open but also captured both the 115cc Open and 115cc Sports Production classes of this event sanctioned by the National Motorcycle Sports and Safety Association (NAMSSA) and sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Magnolia Health Tea, Aeromed, Inside Racing and PAGCOR.
Equally exciting was the kickoff of the 180cc Automatic Scooter 4-Stroke class where KC Ng of Takashi Racing pulled a heartstopping escape over Ivan Santiago.
After topping the Pre-Final Heat, Enriquez pulled away from the pack and wrapped up the 12-lap race in six minutes and 34.734 seconds to claim the 150cc Open crown.
Fil-Japanese Masato Fernando checked in 4.414 seconds behind for the runner-up place while Maico Buncio of Elf Moto Oil- YRS Racing and another Suzuki rider Paul Mark Doblada ended third and fourth respectively.
With the win, Enriquez moved up third overall with 148 points behind frontrunning Buncio and Fernando who are a slim point apart with 178 and 177 points respectively.
Enriquez glittered brighter in the combined 115cc Open and 115cc Sports Production race where he turned back Buncio by a huge 4.79 seconds margin.
Honda rider Bryan “Spark” Ortile took third place in the 115cc Open class while Jeff Chan of KSR-Anchor ended third in the 115 Sports Production division.
In the 180cc Automatic Scooter 4-Stroke class, Ng was way ahead from the start but Santiago surges from behind to move up second on the sixth lap and even grabbed the lead with two laps to go.
But Ng pulled a quick maneuver to regain the lead and completed the 12-lap race in 6:49.876 or 0.311 of a second ahead of Santiago . Paul Pangilinan checked in third while Josh Reuben Tan took fourth place.
Winning the other races were Maico Buncio who prevailed in the 130cc class over Anthony Roman and third placer Marvin Mangulabnan; and Paolo Labador bagged the 115cc Super Stock division over Chris Friyenesa and third place Marlon Arseo.

TIU VIRTUALLY SEALS SIXTH CROWN IN SAN MIG COFFE DRAG RACING
Defending champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing got the overall crown in the bag following his big win recently in the fifth and penultimate leg of the 2009 San Mig Coffee National Drag Racing Championship-National Trophy Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
It was another career milestone for Tiu who clinched an unprecedented sixth straight Drag Racing title in this event santioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Pilipinas Shell, San Mig Coffee, Yokohama , PagCor and Aeromed.
He now holds a total of 60 points to virtually capture the overall Quick 8 plum, leaving Ed Christian Go of Blanche Racing and Pepi Santos of H3 Motorsports disputing the runner-up honors in the forthcoming championship leg at the Clark International Speedway.
In a four-way tie for fourth place are David Lim, Ed Christopher Go, John Ryzia and Walter Pazon who all hold 10 points apiece.
And with the title quest done, Tiu could look forward to breaking his current all-time fastest quarter-mile record of 9.223 seconds.
Like Tiu, Ed Christian Go and Jeannette Go also virtually copped the titles in their respective divisions.
Ed Christian sealed the Pro Class crown with 40 points despite his runner-up finish in the last race. The feat leaves his father, San Mariano Mayor Edgar Go of Blanche Racing and Why Why Dagondon of W. Autosport-Vannitec in a tight battle for runner-up honors toting 20 points apiece.
Also in contention for overall runner-up are last leg’s winner Anthony Go of Blanche Racing and John Kalaw who are close behind with 15 points each.
Jeannette, on the other hand, is way ahead in the Hot Street class with 50 points up against Cholo Dayrit and Boy Francisco who holds 25 and 20 points respectively.
Despite his loss in the last race, Jonathan Young of JCT-Blanche Racing remains on top of the Expert class with 30 points. However, the consequences could lead to complicated battle for the crown with Junmar Tabalno of Kool Plus, H3 Motorsports drivers John Kalaw and Pepi Santos, and Vanni Garcia of W. Autosports-Vannitec just close behind.
Tabalno, in spite of his third place finish, moved up second overall with 25 points while Kalaw, Santos and Garcia are in close third with identical 15 points.
The Sportsman Class is expected to be an intense five-way title bout among Akim Cleofe of Alps Racing, Jon Sarmiento of Blanche Racing, Lennel Diaz of Mohspeed, Mods Mojden of The Source and Vic Mallare of Team Ready who are all tied in the lead with 15 points apiece.(BCastro)

DESPITE ENGINE PROBLEMS, TIU RULES SAN MIG COFFE DRAG RACING
Defending champion Jonathan Tiu prevailed anew as he powered a 1-2-3 sweep for JCT-Blanche Racing recently in the fifth and penultimate leg of the 2009 San Mig Coffee National Drag Racing Championship-National Trophy Series at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
It was a tough struggle this time for Tiu who got really disappointed over engine problems that hounded him in the early goings of this event santioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Pilipinas Shell, San Mig Coffee, Yokohama, PagCor and Aeromed.
The problems came right after beating Vanni Garcia of W. Autosport-Vannitec with a 10.061 seconds in the first match. Good thing, teammates Anthony Go and Walter Pazon gave way in the quarterfinal and semifinal rounds respectively as his time went worse with a 20.622 seconds before clinching the Quick 8 crown with a 16.531 seconds on a solo run.
Pazon took the runner-up honors while Blanche Racing’s Ed Christian Go wound up third.
The race also turned into a family affair as husband-wife pair of Anthony and Jeannette Go bagged the titles in their respective divisions.
Anthony ruled the Pro class clocking 12.463 seconds in the final showdown against Ed Christian Go who committed a red light violation with a time of 15.389 seconds while Pazon ended third.
Jeannette dominated over her male rivals anew, winning over Ralph Montalbo of Montavita in a double breakout situation while Jericson de Jesus wound up third with 16.408 seconds.
After losing the Quick 8 crown, Vanni Garcia had a smooth sail in clincing the Expert title with a time of 13.156 seconds.
After points leader Jonathan Young of JCT-Blanche Racing got ousted in the first round, Garcia worked his way up turning back Topher Esguerra of Just Racing in the first round and Junmar Tabalno in the quarterfinals to arrange a semifinal match against Jon Porto and his fast Volkswagen.
But Porto , who had a fast time of 12.905, was slapped with a red light violation as Garcia romped to victory.
Tabalno wound up third with a time of 13.839 seconds.
Jon Sarmiento of Blance Racing ruled the Sportsman class clocking 14.138 seconds over runner-up Ronald Galang of VYAS Auto Shop and third placer Louie Montalbo of Montavita.

TIU TACKLES MAKE OR BREAK FEAT IN SAN MIG COFFE DRAG RACING SERIES
The battle for speed and supremacy comes to its peak as the country’s fastest drivers try to fortify their title bids in the fifth and penultimate leg of the 2009 San Mig Coffee National Drag Racing Championship-National Trophy Series on Saturday (July 25) at the Batangas Racing Circuit.
With the last playdate washed out by heavy rains, defending champion Jonathan Tiu of JCT-Blanche Racing gets more eager to go for the crucial win that will virtually capture his unprecedented sixth straight Drag Racing crown in this event sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines and sponsored by San Miguel Corporation, Pilipinas Shell, San Mig Coffee, Yokohama, PagCor and Aeromed.
He leads the title race with 45 points and all he needs is a runner-up finish to settle the issue.
If not, he will have to deal with a complicated situation for a three-way championship showdown with Pepi Santos of H3 Autoworks or Ed Christian Go of Blanche Racing for the Quick 8 crown and the overall plum.
“The postponement of last month’s action due to heavy rain just make me more eager, and gave me more time to adjust the car’s set-up for this crucial race,” said Tiu, who owns the BRC track record time of 9.903 seconds.
“Hopefully, no unexpected turn of events would spoil my bid to wrap up the title this early. Breaking the record would not be a priority in this race, but only when the opportunity allows,” he added.
Likewise, Ed Christian Go is also seeking his third win to fortify this chances for the Pro class crown. He has 30 points so far, enjoying a 10-point advantage over his father, San Mariano Isabela Mayor Edgar Go and Vannitec’s Why Why Dagondon.
BRC Director Fil Gulfin urges all participants to come early in anticipation of scattered showers that may cause delays on the race.
“We’re also praying that no rain put a halt to these crucial encounters, so we have to start early to maximize the dry track and have all the races done on time,” explained Gulfin.
Also seeking big wins in their respective divisions are Jonathan Young and Jeanette Go of JCT-Blanche Racing, and Vic Mallare of Team Ready-GR Canon Development Group.
Young eyes another triumph against Junmar Tabalino of Kool Plus and John Kalaw of H3 Autoworks in the Expert class title up while Go eyes another repeat feat over male rivals led by Cholo Dayrit of Forced Speed, Boy Francisco of Team Ready and Hubert Canarias of Bertspeed in the Hot Street division.
Mallare, on the other hand, looks forward to another triumph in the Sportsman Class to breakaway from the four-way tie for the lead together with Akim Cleofe of Alps Racing, Lennell Diaz of Mohspeed, Mods Mojden of The Source./BCastro

Tan and Buenaflor are Asuncion’s closest rivals for the GT 200 title and with two legs to go, the hunt for the coveted plum could turn a race to the finish.
